UNC basketball head coach Hubert Davis recently made a special trip, but it wasn’t one that was intended for vacation purposes.

Being a head coach of a Division I program is simply an all-year-round job. From recruiting to all the other aspects that come along with the job, it’s safe to say that most coaches typically don’t stop going, even during their scheduled downtime.

As he’s been the head coach of the UNC basketball program for over a year now, Hubert Davis certainly has gotten his taste of what being the lead man entitles. Although he could easily justify going on a vacation to rest and relax a bit, Davis has traveled a bit, but not for his own personal benefit.

This week, Davis made a trip to Tijuana, Mexico. Now, you may be wondering, “what’s the significance of this distinct location in Mexico?”

Well, Davis didn’t go to spend his time sightseeing or spending time with family and friends. He went to support two of his future players as they competed in the FIBA U18 Americas Championship.

Davis was in attendance to watch UNC basketball commits Seth Trimble and G.G. Jackson help lead Team USA to a dominating 116-48 victory over the Dominican Republic. Neither player is on campus just yet, but Davis made a personal effort to support them as they represent the United States in this major event.

The appearance from Davis was certainly appreciated, as Trimble’s mother, Laurence Trimble, took to Twitter to show her appreciation for her son’s future coach.

We already knew how committed Davis is to the UNC basketball program, as his days as a player and assistant coach are very evident of that. Now as the head coach, Davis is showing first-hand the love and commitment he has to his players, even way before they are set to arrive on campus.

Recruits should take note as they search for the right program for them: find yourself a head coach who supports you as much as Hubert Davis supports his players before, during, and even after their careers as Tar Heels.
