In case you haven’t seen him pitch this season, you may want to take a look at this nasty changeup from former UNC baseball standout Zac Gallen.

Zac Gallen of the Arizona Diamondbacks is off to a tremendous start to begin the 2022 season.

Over his first nine starts, the former UNC baseball standout is 4-0 with a 2.32 ERA. The Diamondbacks are 7-2 in his starts, including his most recent outing, a 6-2 victory over the defending champion Atlanta Braves.

Injuries have derailed Gallen quite a bit since he arrived in the big leagues, but when he’s on the mound, he’s shown flashes of being one of the best pitchers in the sport. The rebuilding Diamondbacks are hopeful that he can stay healthy and effective over the long stretch of a 162-game season.

As hitters like when their home runs are showcased all over sports channels around the world, pitchers love when their nasty stuff gets shown by Rob Friedman.

In case you don’t know who he is, Friedman is a pitching analyst who runs Pitching Ninja. Through this, Friedman showcases the best pitches that the sport has to offer on any given day.

His brand became so popular that he’s even partnered with the likes of Peacock, ESPN as well as Major League Baseball. Needless to say: if you’re a pitcher, you want your moment of glory on Pitching Ninja!

In his last outing against the Braves, Gallen earned this honor, as the below 89 MPH changeup was viewed over 18,000 times on Twitter.

It’s hard enough for hitters to put a fastball in play, imagine trying to hit that changeup not only with the speed difference but as it drops completely out of the zone?!

After watching that pitch, I’m glad I don’t have to attempt it!

Pitches like Gallen’s changeup make a major difference when trying to get big league hitters out. As he looks to continue his success, it’s safe to say that there will be plenty more changeups coming out of the former UNC baseball standout’s right hand in the near future!
