A duo of UNC basketball commits will be representing the program in the upcoming FIBA U18 Americas Championship in Mexico.

There are definitely some UNC basketball ties to the final roster for the 2022 USA Basketball Men’s 18U National Team.

After trimming the roster down from 27 to 17 players on May 28, USA Basketball announced its final roster on Tuesday afternoon. The team of 13 players will compete in the 2022 FIBA U18 Americas Championship in Tijuana, Mexico, which will take place from June 6-12.

Two future Tar Heels made the cut, as incoming freshman Seth Trimble and No. 1 overall rated Class of 2023 prospect G.G. Jackson will both compete in the upcoming tournament. They are included on a star-studded list of high school prospects that represent the graduating classes of 2022, 2023, and 2024.

This will be a great opportunity for both UNC basketball commits, as they’ll have the chance to compete with and against some of the best players in the world. The experience will only help them get better as they prepare for their time in Chapel Hill.

Jackson draws a ton of attention, and rightly so, but Trimble continues to thrive as he prepares for his freshman season on campus. Trimble is a guy who has the potential to make an impact right away in Chapel Hill, as he could find himself playing a significant amount of minutes in a reserve role to keep keep the likes of Caleb Love and R.J. Davis fresh throughout the season.

The USA Basketball Men’s U18 National Team will kick off pool play on June 6, as they’ll take on the Dominican Republic. Trimble and Jackson will look to help the USA bring home their 10th title over the last 12 FIBA tournaments.
