Jawad Williams has decided that it is time to walk away from the sport of basketball.
On Twitter, the former UNC basketball standout announced his retirement after a 17-year professional basketball career. The now 39-year-old cites the ability to “walk away from the game on my own terms,” as something that he is proud to say he’s able to do.
Williams’ career, which spanned over three decades, is one that not many players can replicate. He played professionally in eight different countries and won seven Cups or Titles during his career.
Dating back to his time in Chapel Hill, Williams will retire as a highly decorated professional basketball player. Shortly after his retirement announcement, the UNC basketball Twitter account wasted no time highlighting some of his finest career milestones.
In 128 games at North Carolina, Williams averaged 12.7 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. He was a vital member of the Tar Heels 2004-2005 National Championship team, a season in which he earned All-ACC honors.
