UNC basketball transfer Kerwin Walton has narrowed his recruitment down to five finalists. Which programs made the cut and are still in the mix?

With the final day to withdraw from the 2022 NBA Draft coming this week, it was expected that we’d receive some type of update on former UNC basketball player Kerwin Walton.

Although Walton hasn’t officially withdrawn from the draft just yet, all signs point to him returning to the college ranks for the 2022-2023 season.

Over the weekend, Walton told On3Sports that he is down to five schools in his recruitment. This serves as yet another sign that the former Tar Heel is now focused on finding a new college program to call home.

Walton has tabbed Texas Tech, Clemson, Oklahoma, Memphis, and Kansas State as his five finalists. After Creighton was considered an early favorite, it seems that their pursuit of the guard ended with the transfer additions of other players.

After a solid freshman season at North Carolina, things simply took a turn for the worst for Walton during his sophomore campaign. He went from a player who Roy Williams couldn’t take off the floor due to his three-point shooting ability to a player whom Hubert Davis couldn’t find time for, given his one-dimensional skill set and below-average defensive skills.

With Walton looking to bounce back, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that he had quite amount of suitors in the mix. The programs recruiting the former Tar Heel are hopeful that they can get him on their campus and find a way to regain his freshman year form throughout his remaining time with their program.
