Freshman Vance Honeycutt continues to make history, as he becomes the first UNC baseball player ever to record a 20-20 season.

Vance Honeycutt is in the process of arguably putting together one of the best individual seasons in UNC baseball history.

And to think he’s only a freshman!

As the Tar Heels competed for the ACC Tournament championship, Honeycutt has been an active participant for Scott Forbes’ team. The Salisbury, North Carolina native has put his name in the program’s record books during tournament play.

To start, Honeycutt set a new UNC baseball freshman single-season home run record, passing the mark initially set by Aaron Sabato (18) back in 2019. After claiming sole possession of the record, Honeycutt had more history in mind.

In the ACC Tournament championship game against N.C. State, Honeycutt clubbed his 20th homer of the 2022 season. He became the first Tar Heel ever to record 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases in a single season.

Recording a 20-20 season is not an easy feat, and it’s even more incredible to think that Honeycutt is the first-ever UNC baseball player to do it! It goes to show just what type of special season he’s having in his first year on campus in Chapel Hill.

With the Tar Heels in postseason play, Honeycutt will get to showcase his talents on an even bigger stage. It won’t take long before the country starts to realize that one of the best players in the entire nation patrols center field for the UNC baseball program.
