UNC Basketball: Tar Heels to face Ohio State in CBS Sports Classic

The UNC basketball program is heading to Madison Square Garden, as they’ll take on Ohio State in this year’s CBS Sports Classic. 

The CBS Sports Classic is making its way back to New York City.

For the first time since 2015, the event will take place in the Big Apple. With the first instance occurring at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, this year’s contest will be held at Madison Square Garden, the home of the New York Knicks.

If you’re already excited about some UNC basketball this upcoming season, make sure you mark off December 17 on your calendar.

In this year’s event, the Tar Heels will match up with Ohio State of the Big Ten Conference. North Carolina is looking to avenge their blowout loss to Kentucky during last season’s condensed tournament (due to COVID-19).

The Tar Heels and Buckeyes have become familiar foes over the years, as this will be their third head-to-head contest in this event. After North Carolina defeated Ohio State in the inaugural game of this event back in 2014, the Roy Williams-led Tar Heels took care of the Buckeyes in a 86-72 victory during their last CBS Sports Classic meeting back in 2017.

Expectations are already sky-high for the Tar Heels, as they’ll come into the new season considered one of the early favorites to win the national championship. This game will be a great early non-conference battle for Davis and his team, as they’ll look to prove that they can live up to all the hype surrounding them.
