What did former UNC basketball player Walker Kessler have to say about Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels during his NBA Draft combine interview?

Just a year after transferring from the University of North Carolina, Walker Kessler is making his way to the NBA.

After a standout season at Auburn, Kessler decided it was time to take his talents to the professional level. With the draft just about a month away, Kessler was among the group of players that had the opportunity to compete in this week’s NBA Draft combine.

Even though his lone season in Chapel Hill didn’t go as planned, Kessler will always have ties to the UNC basketball program. Of course, reporters still continue to find ways to ask him questions about his former team.

On Thursday, Kessler met with the media as part of the NBA Draft combine interviews and was asked about his time at North Carolina as well as the team’s run to the national title game this past season.

With Roy Williams retiring after last season, Hubert Davis made a strong effort to keep Kessler with the Tar Heels. Even though he elected to go elsewhere, Kessler had some very positive things to say about Davis and the North Carolina coaching staff.

"“We went through a hard time together. And that coaching staff — I love them. I was so happy to see them do well (in 2021-22), quite honestly. It wasn’t expected of Coach Davis, but to see them get to that level. And it didn’t end how he wanted it, but I was extremely, extremely happy for him.”"

Kessler admitted that he did follow the Tar Heels in the NCAA Tournament and seemed to be impressed with their run to the finals.

"They were playing their best basketball. They were playing very well,”"

As we look ahead to the NBA Draft, Kessler is expected to be a first-round pick. However, mock drafts have him essentially all over the place, as some analysts view him as a late lottery pick while some have him sliding towards the end of the first round.

Regardless of where he lands, we’re sure that more UNC basketball-inspired questions will be asked by the media during his time in the NBA.
