Former UNC basketball standout Brian Reese has rejoined fellow former Tar Heel King Rice’s coaching staff at Monmouth University.

We’re officially set for a UNC basketball reunion at Monmouth University.

Former Tar Heel standout Brian Reese is rejoining the Hawks men’s basketball program as an assistant coach, working once again under former Tar Heel teammate King Rice. Reese was part of Rice’s original staff at Monmouth, spending four seasons with the program from 2011 to 2015.

In his first stint with the program, Reese played a key part in assembling one of the most successful groups in program history. During the 2014-15 season, Reese helped Monmouth to an 18-win season, the most wins in the program since 2005-06. It also served as the program’s first winning record in MAAC play at 13-7.

After leaving the Hawks program, Reese went on to take over as the head coach at Georgian Court University. He spent three seasons leading the program and most recently was on the coaching staff at Illinois State.

Here’s what Reese had to say about his return to Monmouth University.

"“I’m so grateful to be back at Monmouth and to have this opportunity that Coach Rice has given me. I’m really looking forward to getting to know the team and working with the staff. I am ready to do whatever Coach Rice needs in order to help this program continue to grow and be successful. I’m excited to once again be a Monmouth Hawk!”"

Reese rejoins the program at a great time, as they are set to transition to the CAA for the 2022-2023 season. The Hawks will look to build off their 21-win season, a year that led them to the MAAC title game.
