Former UNC football standout Ty Chandler discussed how transferring to North Carolina helped him grow as a football player.

With an additional season of college football eligibility, Ty Chandler decided to take a chance on himself.

After spending four seasons with the Tennessee Volunteers, Chandler entered the transfer portal and found a new home with the UNC football program. It was a move that certainly paid off, as Chandler became the team’s premier running back en route to being selected in the 2022 NFL Draft.

In his lone season in Chapel Hill, Chandler surpassed 1,000 rushing yards in a single season for the first time in his college career. To put things into perspective, if you add his rushing yards from his junior season at Tennessee (655) to his senior season with the Volunteers (456), the combined 1,111 rushing yards just barely edges his 1,092 yards he rushed for as a Tar Heel in one single season.

Talk about a breakout season!

In a recent interview, Chandler was asked about how the process of transferring helped him in his career:

"“It has taught me a lot. It has taught me the beauty of hard work and just speaking stuff into existence and watching stuff come to fruition. It has been a grind, it has been a process, but I feel like with every step I’ve just gotten better along the way and met great people along the way that are willing to help and continue to push me toward that success. So I’m grateful for everybody I’ve crossed paths with and everybody who has helped me benefit and gain success on the field. So it has truly been a blessing, making transitions and like I said meeting new people and getting a chance to play with new people and learn from other individuals.”"

As he now embarks on his NFL career, Chandler will have the opportunity to learn from Dalvin Cook, a three-time Pro Bowler who is considered one of the best running backs in the league.

Chandler should right away be a nice compliment back to Cook, as he’ll probably be used as a situational back early on in his career. However, if he continues to develop as he did with the UNC football program, his role will definitely begin to expand over time.
