UNC Basketball: Jackson Watkins showcases “lock up” defense
UNC head coach Hubert Davis will be happy to know that Jackson Watkins is spending the offseason working on his “lock up” defense!
The members of the UNC basketball program continue to put together some great content on the social media app TikTok.
Walk-on guard Jackson Watkins posted a TikTok that should be in the mix for “TikTok of the Day.” Watkins gave his followers a look at how he’s been spending his offseason so far.
"@jwatkins_30 how’s my form? @Leaky Black #lockedbyleaky #unc #basketball #clamps #nationalbiscuitday ♬ original sound – "

The video opens with an image of an iMessage thread between Watkins and his mother, Tar Heel alumna Jeanette Tyson. As Tyson tells her son that she will be gone for a week, she requests that Watkins “lock up the front door” while they aren’t around.
Of course, most people would take that message and check throughout the week that the door is locked, but Watkins took the message in literal basketball terms.
The TikTok transitions to a video of Watkins playing “lock up” defense in front of the door, actually guarding the door that his mother simply asked him to make sure was closed and secured. Watkins didn’t fully understand what Tyson meant by the iMessage, but we’re sure head coach Hubert Davis is happy to see him working on his defense in his spare time!
In his caption, Watkins asked fellow teammate (and known lockdown defender) Leaky Black how his form is. We’re sure that Black is pleased with his teammates’ effort (and will give him pointers on how to improve once they get back on campus!)
It’s great to see the players using social media to showcase their character, and it seems as if they are having a lot of fun putting together some content for the fans. We’ll have to wait and see what else Watkins (and the other UNC basketball players) will come up with in the future!
