UNC Baseball: Colin Moran puts together special Mother’s Day game
It’s safe to say that his performance on Mother’s Day 2022 will be one that former UNC baseball standout Colin Moran will never forget.
On Mother’s Day, former UNC baseball standout Colin Moran put together one of the best performances of his big league career.
It all started in the bottom of the sixth inning, as Moran’s Cincinnati Reds trailed 2-1 to the Pittsburgh Pirates. With the bases loaded, the former first-round pick chose the perfect opportunity to hit his first home run of the season, as he launched a pitch into the right-field seats.
Although the grand slam was a nice Mother’s Day present for his mother, Diane, Moran wasn’t done just yet. Two innings later, the former Tar Heel found the seats once again, driving a two-run homer to deep right-center field to give the Reds enough cushion to secure the victory.
Moran’s six runs batted in sets a new career-high for the former UNC baseball standout. His strong offensive performance helped the Reds secure a series victory in the process.
It hasn’t been the ideal start to the season for Moran, who has just 11 hits over 62 plate appearances heading into Monday’s action.
The type of performance that Moran put together on Mother’s Day is not only a great gift for his mother but also is one that could get him going offensively. For a team in a rebuilding mode, they would certainly benefit from getting Moran’s bat going in the middle part of the lineup.
