Ty Chandler becomes the third UNC football player to be drafted in the 2022 NFL Draft, as he’s selected by the Minnesota Vikings.

With the 169th pick, in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings select…

Ty Chandler, running back from the University of North Carolina!

The former UNC football standout finally heard his name called, as he’ll begin his NFL career in the NFC North Division. He becomes the third Tar Heels running back to be selected over the last two NFL Drafts.

Chandler came to the University of North Carolina with one season of eligibility, one of which he fully took advantage of. With Javonte Williams and Michael Carter departing for the NFL, Chandler was brought in to help lead the Tar Heels running back group.

For the first time in his collegiate career, Chandler rushed for over 1,000 yards, as he accumulated over 1,300 yards from scrimmage while scoring 16 total touchdowns. He was a steady presence in the UNC football program’s backfield, as he was a reliable weapon for Sam Howell to work with.

You could make the case that Chandler may have slipped in the draft due to his age (set to turn 24 in May). However, you can also make the argument that the Vikings got an absolute steal by adding him into the mix.

We all know how good Dalvin Cook is, but let’s remember, he has had some injury problems in the past. Adding a player like Chandler not only adds to the team’s depth, but provides another viable weapon to use in the offense, both in the run and passing games. He’s a versatile back who could bring so much to the table and will look to make an impact in Minnesota similar to the one he made in his brief stint at Chapel Hill.

Best of luck to Ty Chandler as he begins his NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings!
