The UNC basketball program is on the verge of losing another player, as a former walk-on has entered the transfer portal.

It appears as if the UNC basketball program is set to lose another player from last year’s roster to the transfer portal.

According to reports, former walk-on Ryan McAdoo has entered the transfer portal. McAdoo, the son of former UNC basketball standout and NBA Hall of Famer Bob McAdoo, will hit the portal as a graduate transfer.

After transferring to North Carolina after one season at Florida Gulf Coast, McAdoo never took on a major role for the Tar Heels. Over his three seasons on the team’s roster, the Boca Raton, Florida native appeared in just 26 contests, averaging less than two minutes per contest.

It shouldn’t be a surprise that McAdoo is transferring. This season, McAdoo took part in the team’s “Senior Day” festivities, a sign in which showed that he would possibly be on the move.

Similar to Walker Miller last year, McAdoo will look for a program in which he can play a bigger role on the court. The move worked out for Miller, given that he found a new home at Monmouth and thrived in his new role, and it’s possible that McAdoo could find the same type of success with another program.

Although the Tar Heels are losing a player off their roster, they still do not have any scholarships remaining. As a walk-on, McAdoo was not on scholarship, so his departure from the program will simply open up a roster space with no scholarship attached to it.
