After much anticipation, it is finally official: G.G. Jackson has announced his commitment to join the UNC basketball program.

The wait is finally over!

As part of a press conference at his school, Ridge View High School in South Carolina, five-star forward G.G. Jackson has officially committed to the UNC basketball program. In one of the top recruiting battles for the Class of 2023, the Tar Heels edged out Auburn, Duke, Georgetown, South Carolina, and the G-League for Jackson’s commitment.

This is a major addition for the Tar Heels, as they now have two five-star prospects headlining their class of 2023. Simeon Wilcher (Roselle Catholic, NJ) is the other top junior who has already verbally committed to the program.

Although all signs (and Crystal Ball Predictions) pointed towards Jackson choosing the Tar Heels, there were plenty of times throughout this process where it didn’t seem certain that the 6-foot-9 forward would end up in Chapel Hill. Frank Martin’s firing at South Carolina seemed to be a move that greatly benefitted the Tar Heels, as it appears as if that decision by the program may have cost them a chance at landing Jackson.

According to 247 Sports Composite, Jackson is the No. 5 overall player in the class of 2023 and is considered the best prospect coming out of South Carolina. The five-star has a .9984 recruiting rating, which places him among the best recruits that the UNC basketball program has ever acquired.

Jackson now stands as the program’s No. 6 all-time commit during the modern recruiting era. To put it into perspective, Jackson ranks ahead of some very notable former UNC basketball standouts, including Ty Lawson, Tyler Hansbrough, Justin Jackson, and Caleb Love (to name a few).

Needless to say, this is a major addition for Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels. Although it was a long, anticipated wait for his decision, it is now official:

G.G. Jackson is heading to Chapel Hill.
