One-half of the UNC basketball backcourt is returning to campus in the fall

North Carolina sophomore guard R.J. Davis took to Twitter on Saturday afternoon to announce his plans to return to Chapel Hill in the fall.

With Davis in tow, the Tar Heels now await the decision of just one player, rising sophomore standout Caleb Love. North Carolina junior center Armando Bacot and senior wing Leaky Black announced their respective returns to UNC last week.

If Love does, in fact, do what North Carolina fans unanimously want him to do, then the Tar Heels will welcome back four of the five starters that won 29 games last season and went all the way to the National Championship Game.

Davis, a 6-foot, 175-pound native of White Plains, New York, averaged career-highs in points (13.5), assists (3.6), rebounds (4.3), shooting percentage (42.5), three-point percentage (36.7), and free throw shooting (83.3) in his second season of college ball.

He scored at least 20 points on five occasions this season after not doing so even once as a freshman. He scored a career-best 30 points to go along with six assists and five rebounds in the Tar Heels’ second-round upset of top-seeded Baylor. He posted a career-high 12 assists two days prior in North Carolina’s first-round win over the Marquette Golden Eagles.
