In disappointing UNC football news, Tomari Fox lost his appeal and will NOT be allowed to play in any games during the 2022 season.

Unfortunately, the UNC football program will be without defensive lineman Tomari Fox for the 2022 season.

In case you’re unfamiliar with the situation, Fox tested positive for using an NCAA-banned substance. Not only did Fox have to sit out the Tar Heels’ bowl game against South Carolina, but the suspension also covered the 2022 regular season as well.

In an attempt to regain his eligibility, Fox appealed the decision, as the school said that the Lawrenceville, Georgia native was unaware that the supplement was not approved for use. However, the NCAA denied his appeal, as the suspension that was previously given out will stand.

Here is what Tomari Fox had to say in his official statement regarding the NCAA’s decision to deny his appeal:

"“Unfortunately, I will not be able to participate in the 2022 football season for reasons I cannot control. I’m disappointed in the decision, but I remain hopeful for the future. I will continue to give my all to Tar Heel Nation both on and off the field.”"

Although he will not be able to play in regular-season contests, head coach Mack Brown told reporters that Fox would still practice and work out with the team moving forward. If the Tar Heels can advance to postseason play, Fox would be eligible to return to action.
