In UNC basketball recruiting news, five-star 2024 prospect Jason Asemota recently discussed the Tar Heels in his latest recruitment update.

Jason Asemota has been rising up the recruiting ranks over the last couple of weeks.

After earning MVP honors at the Underclassman All-American Game on March 27, Asemota has drawn even more interest from some top-flight college basketball programs.

Currently, 247 Sports Composite views the Phoenix, Arizona native as the No. 18 overall prospect in the Class of 2024, and is regarded as the top player out of his respective state. On3 Sports has the 6-foot-8 forward ranked even higher, as their rankings have the Hillcrest Prep standout as their No. 5 overall player in the class.

Asemota has been a top UNC basketball recruiting target, and they appear to be right in the mix for the standout forward. With the second live period approaching over the next two to three weeks, Asemota said that he will make two unofficial visits during that span, one of which will be to Chapel Hill.

The other visit will be right down the road from North Carolina, as Asemota will visit rival Duke during this trip. Both “Blue Blood” programs will have an early crack at trying to convince the five-star prospect that their respective school is the right place for him.

While speaking to On3 Sports in a recent interview about his recruitment, here’s what Asemota had to say regarding the Tar Heels:

"“Winning. They love to win. As you’ve seen this year, they went to the National Championship game. I just feel like the history of UNC with all the greats that went there, it’s just a rich history. I’d love to see what it’s like when I go on campus.”"

Even though he said that he’s still far off from making a final decision, Asemota has an idea of what he’s looking for while looking at each program:

"“If the whole school loves basketball, I feel like it would be a home to me because I love basketball,” he said. “I like to win. I would love if a coach wanted to help me personally if I made a decision to either go to the league or stay. I would hope he would help me and not just what’s best for his program at the time. Also somewhere I can just call home.”"

Based on what Asemota is looking for, you’d have to think that North Carolina is a very enticing option for him. From the program’s rich history to its tremendous basketball-oriented school environment, Asemota could come in and be a major factor in continuing the program’s success.

To add to that, Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels revolve around the “Family” motto, as the staff is always focused on doing what is best for each individual student-athlete. Whether he decides to stay for one year or four, Asemota would have a place that he could call home for the rest of his life.

We’re still very early in his recruiting process, but Jason Asemota will be a name to keep an eye on for the 2024 UNC basketball recruiting class. As he continues to rise up the rankings, it will remain to be seen whether this recruitment becomes a “Blue Blood” battle.
