The UNC Field Hockey program received some great news, as Erin Matson announced that she will return for her fifth season.

Hey, men’s basketball players aren’t the only ones who are benefitting from the additional year of eligibility!

The attention on Friday afternoon surrounded UNC basketball standout Leaky Black, who announced that he will return to Chapel Hill for one more season. He wasn’t the only Tar Heel athlete to announce their decision though, as a star UNC Field Hockey player also made her future intentions known.

In MAJOR field hockey news, Erin Matson announced that she will return for another season with the UNC field hockey program. The Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania native will look to add to her already illustrious collegiate career resume.

Now, you may be wondering: what kind of “unfinished business” would a three-time national player of the year as well as a three-time national championship have?

Well, considering how last season ended, Matson and the UNC field hockey team have their own redemption tour in mind.

After securing another ACC tournament title, Matson and the Tar Heels were ousted early from the NCAA playoffs, which ended their attempt at a fourth consecutive title.

With this in mind, Matson will most certainly be looking to right the ship before she ends her college career in Chapel Hill.

When her final season comes this fall, Matson will look to add to her already long list of school and national records. With her individual career already among the greatest in Tar Heels history, she’ll look to cap off her career with a fourth championship title in her five-year span with the program.
