The UNC women’s basketball program has earned a MASSIVE commitment from one of the top-ranked players in the Class of 2023.

Courtney Banghart and the UNC women’s basketball program have earned yet another commitment from a big-time high school prospect.

The latest comes in the form of Ciera Toomey, a five-star prospect from Pennsylvania who is ranked No. 3 overall by the HoopGurlz Recruiting rankings. North Carolina beat out seven other programs, including UCONN, to earn a commitment from one of the top talents from the Class of 2023.

With legendary head coach Geno Auriemma at the helm, UCONN has been a tough program for other schools to edge out in recruiting battles. However, the Tar Heels have done a tremendous job in closing the gap, as this marks the second player that North Carolina has lured in over the last three years that also considered heading to UCONN.

Toomey is coming off a season in which she earned the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Player of the Year Award. As a junior, the 6-3 stretch-five led Dunmore High School to a 25-2 overall record, as she averaged 18.5 points per game while shooting an outstanding 67.2 percent from the floor.

When she arrives in Chapel Hill, Toomey certainly has the potential to be an impact player right away for the Tar Heels. She’s a versatile player who can not only score the basketball but pass at a high level for a player at her position. Along with her offensive prowess, Toomey has been a defensive standout, as blocking shots has become one of her many specialties.

Not only is this a major commitment from the program, but could be a sign of good things to come on the recruiting trail. As Banghart and her staff have proven that they can lure in top talents, the North Carolina women’s basketball program is becoming a very enticing destination for the country’s top players.

It’s an exciting time for the UNC women’s basketball program, and rightly so. The team currently in place has been competing at a high level, while the future is looking extremely bright with all the talent that Banghart has been able to bring in.

Based on their recent success in luring in prospects, it wouldn’t be a surprise at all to see them win more recruiting battles against some of the country’s top programs.

If you haven’t yet, it’s time to start taking some stock in the UNC women’s basketball program. Under the direction of Banghart, the program seems to be heading towards national notoriety.
