Class of 2023 UNC basketball recruiting target Gregory “G.G.” Jackson played in front of Hubert Davis and his staff at this weekend’s Nike EYBL event.

The North Carolina Tar Heels coaching staff was three-deep at this weekend’s Nike EYBL event in Orlando, Florida. With a pair of his assistants in tow, UNC head coach Hubert Davis watched a number of the Tar Heels’ top recruiting targets, including ones from both the 2023 and 2024 classes.

Among the players they sat courtside to watch were class of 2023 UNC commit Simeon Wilcher and No. 1-ranked class of 2024 prospect Naasir Cunningham. They also took in a game on Sunday morning that featured class of 2023 consensus five-star recruit Matas Buzelis.

But perhaps the most high-profile and widely-coveted recruit at the entire tournament was Gregory “G.G.” Jackson, a player that is considered by most to be favoring the Tar Heels. We’re expecting an announcement from Jackson soon — possibly as early as this week — but we’ll keep watching him at his craft any time we get a chance.

Over his first three games of the tournament, Jackson averaged just 11.3 points and six rebounds per game. Then, in typical G.G. Jackson fashion, he went off for 25 points and 10 rebounds in his team’s fourth and final game of the weekend. He hit an impressive 11-of-14 shots from the floor and 2-of-3 from three-point range, showcasing precisely why the Tar Heels are working so hard for his commitment.

Jackson named a list of finalists that, along with North Carolina, includes Auburn, Duke, Georgetown, South Carolina, and the G-League. He later added UMass following the hiring of former Gamecocks head coach Frank Martin. All recent indications have pointed toward it being a two-team race between Duke and North Carolina, but over the last couple of weeks, all of the buzz has been around UNC and UNC only.

We shouldn’t have to wait much longer to find out, and we’ll continue to closely follow any and all developments in Jackson’s recruitment.
