UNC Basketball Recruiting: Jarin Stevenson talks Tar Heels, ACC interest
Jarin Stevenson, a UNC basketball recruiting target in the Class of 2024, recently spoke about the Tar Heels and the other ACC programs that have interest in him.
At this point, the recruitment of Jarin Stevenson seems to be a battle between ACC programs.
Stevenson, a UNC basketball recruiting target from the Class of 2024, currently holds four official offers. The four teams that have made offers include North Carolina, Virginia, Wake Forest, and NC State, as the Atlantic Coast Conference teams are making a strong early push to pursue the five-star prospect.
The 6-foot-8 forward is currently ranked as the No. 23 overall player in his class, according to 247 Sports Composite. As he resides in Pittsboro, North Carolina, Stevenson is also viewed as the second-best prospect from his respective state.
At the recent Big Shots Tip-Off, Stevenson spoke about his early recruitment with On3. Here’s what he had to say about the Tar Heels:
"“They are great people over there. Whenever I talk to them, they are very friendly. I love their facilities. It is a blessing to be recruited by UNC. I watched them all growing up, so I am familiar with them, but I am definitely wide open to everyone. There are a lot of greats, a lot of NBA players who came out of there.”"
North Carolina may have an upper edge in regards to Stevenson’s recruitment, as he already has family ties to the university. His mother, Nicole Walker Stevenson, was a starter and three-time ACC champion for the UNC women’s basketball program from 1994 to 1998.
Stevenson called it “a blessing” to be recruited by the UNC basketball program. Given his familiarity with the program, you’d certainly like to think that he’d want to follow in his mother’s footsteps by heading to Chapel Hill.
It’s still quite early in his recruiting process, and it’s certain that more teams will eventually jump into the mix. However, it’s a good start for Hubert Davis and his staff to get the process going with this talented prospect, as their early interest could help them get a head start on trying to land a commitment from him in the future.
