Tristen Newton

After appearing in just 17 games during the 2020-21 season, Tristen Newton saw a major increase in production during his third season at East Carolina.

The 6-foot-5 guard does it all, as he averaged 17.7 points, five assists, and 4.8 rebounds per game. He is an excellent free-throw shooter, as he’s connected on 80 percent or higher at the foul line in each of his three collegiate seasons.

Newton is a guy who could step in right away and make a major impact for the Tar Heels. Adding a versatile guard who can not only score but has above-average playmaking skills could provide an instant boost to the team’s future offensive attack.

Although we’ll have to wait and see how the roster pans out moving forward, these are some guards that should be on the UNC basketball program’s radar IF Caleb Love decides to leave Chapel Hill for the NBA.
