Hubert Davis is making history during his first season as the head coach of the UNC basketball program.

On April 5, 2021, Hubert Davis was named the new head coach of the UNC basketball program, replacing legendary coach Roy Williams.

Not even a year later, 364 days to be exact, Davis and the Tar Heels will be competing in the NCAA National Championship game.

What a year it has been for Davis!

Davis becomes just the fifth EVER first-year head coach to lead his team to the final round of the NCAA Tournament. Not bad for a guy who has never been a head coach at any given level!

Even with the majority of people doubting this team through their early-season ups and downs, Davis and his team never gave up and put together a tremendous run to get to this point.

Although this is a major accomplishment for Davis and the Tar Heels, there’s still unfinished business left on the table. North Carolina aims to be the last team standing on Monday night when the final buzzer sounds at the Super Dome in New Orleans.

From the moment he took over as the team’s head coach, Davis had visions of being in this spot. On the first day of practice, each player had a picture of the Super Dome hanging in their respective locker, as Davis made it well-known that making it this far was the goal for the upcoming season.

It wasn’t easy, to say the least, but here they are, still standing strong. This resilient group continues to battle and prove everyone wrong, and their toughness and determination come from their head coach, who loves his team just as much as he loves the UNC basketball program.

Davis has now played in a National Championship as a Tar Heel, won one as an assistant coach with the program, and will now lead his beloved team into Monday night’s championship game in hopes of bringing the title back where it belongs in Chapel Hill.
