Junior Armando Bacot continued his record-breaking season with yet another standout performance in the UNC basketball program’s Final Four victory against Duke.

The UNC basketball program continues to shock the world, as they are heading back to the National Championship!

After an up-and-down start to the season, not many expected the Tar Heels to get to this point. However, behind head coach Hubert Davis, the team believed in themselves and made a very strong push to get to Monday’s title game.

Needless to say, Armando Bacot has been a major reason why the team has had so much success.

Although he did not have his best night shooting the basketball in North Carolina’s nail-biting victory over rival Duke, Bacot certainly still made an impact. Of course, as he’s done a lot this season, Bacot made some more history to add to his illustrious junior season in Chapel Hill.

Let’s start with his first-half effort. After 20 minutes of play, Bacot had already recorded 9 rebounds. That number gave him 72 boards in the NCAA Tournament up to that point, passing Kennedy Meeks (69 in six games in 2017) for the most by a UNC basketball player during a tournament run.

That record was still close after one half of play, but Bacot made sure to add some distance to his new record.

The Richmond, Virginia native ended with 21 rebounds, marking his fifth 20+ rebounding contest of the season. He now has the most rebounds ever in a single national semifinal or championship game in UNC basketball history.

His rebounding total also stands as the most recorded by a single player in a national semifinal game since Hakeem Olajuwon had 22 against Louisville back in 1983.

Bacot now also stands alone as the only player in ACC history to ever record 30 double-doubles in a single season.

Of course, the ankle injury that he suffered during the victory over Duke will be something to keep an eye on. However, if Bacot is able to go on Monday night (which we expect him to), he would need just four rebounds to record 500 for the season.

That number in itself would be an incredible feat.

Armando Bacot’s junior season will go down as one of the best individual seasons in program history. What better way to cap it off than by bringing another national title to Chapel Hill!
