UNC Basketball Recruiting: G.G. Jackson discusses Tar Heels and finalists
As we await UNC basketball recruiting news regarding G.G. Jackson, the five-star prospect discussed the Tar Heels among his other finalists.
With each day that passes, we draw even closer to a decision from five-star prospect G.G. Jackson.
Jackson has been the headline of UNC basketball recruiting news as of late, as the Tar Heels appear to be ‘heavily in the mix’ to land one of the top-ranked prospects in the country.
Late Friday night, we got some intel from Jackson himself, as he spoke to Travis Branham of 247 Sports. Jackson discussed each of his remaining finalists, including the UNC basketball program.
Although it’s not much, here’s what Jackson had to say about the Tar Heels:
"“They’re making a big run and it’s still the same message from them that they want GG so it is constant love from them.”"
What Jackson said was consistent with what he’s been saying over the last couple of weeks. North Carolina has been heavily recruiting him and has remained in constant contact with him as his decision looms near.
When asked about when we could expect a decision, the Columbia, South Carolina native said it could come next week, once the NCAA Tournament officially wraps up. He was also asked about whether re-classifying was still an option, and it appears as if that option is now a longshot.
"“I’m not really looking at it as much as I was before. I am kind of putting it on hold but it is still an option.”"
The speculation early on was that Jackson would re-class if he committed to South Carolina. Now that Frank Martin is out of the mix, it appears that the Gamecocks have taken a major hit in his recruitment, as well as the fact that he seems content with staying in the Class of 2023.
This is good news for North Carolina, as they have a better chance of landing a commitment from Jackson if he remains in his current class. At this point, it is simply a waiting game, but if you’re Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels, you have to feel pretty good about where you stand with one of the top recruits in the entire country.
