In UNC basketball recruiting news, are the Tar Heels heavily pursuing five-star Class of 2024 prospect Cam Scott?

Even with their Final Four appearance coming this weekend, the UNC basketball recruiting trail continues to remain very active.

One of the Tar Heels’ top targets in the Class of 2024 is Cam Scott, a five-star guard from Lexington, South Carolina. Currently, 247 Sports Composite has Scott tabbed as the No. 25 overall player in his class, as well as the top recruit out of his state.

The 6-foot-5 guard is a major standout, as he’s coming off a high school season in which he earned all-state honors for the second time in his career. Remember, he’s just a sophomore, so earning all-state accolades as a freshman and sophomore are rather impressive feats!

Even though he still essentially has half of his high school career remaining, the recruiting trail has been hot, as a handful of teams have been actively pursuing the five-star talent. In a recent interview with On3 Sports, Scott discussed his current recruitment and gave his thoughts on some of the teams that have been among the mix.

Of the programs recruiting him, Scott says that he has heard the most from North Carolina and Florida State. The high school sophomore did note that South Carolina contacted him a lot prior to Frank Martin’s firing, but that since has gone down.

Here’s what Scott said he’s looking for as he searches for the right school for him:

"“I want to go somewhere I feel comfortable and can play my role on the team to my highest ability. I want to make an impact instantly with the team. The comfort level will be big for my family and me.”"

Scott also discussed four schools in depth. Along with North Carolina, Florida State, and South Carolina, the five-star also mentioned the Kentucky Wildcats.

Based on what Scott had to say, it appears as if Hubert Davis and his staff are selling him on the idea that he can be comfortable playing in Chapel Hill.

"“Their whole thing is playing somewhere I feel comfortable. They have had a lot of great players play there, a lot of great players at my position there. They want me to be the one to come in and follow them.”"

For North Carolina, it is certainly an advantage to have such a rich history of talented players that have come through the program. As they look to continue their success, they will try to entice some top talents, such as Scott, that they could be among the next set of great players to wear the Carolina blue uniform.
