UNC Basketball: Tar Heels OUT on former top target
In UNC basketball recruiting news, the Tar Heels are officially OUT of contention for a former target that many believed would end up in Chapel Hill.
When Skyy Clark decided to decommit from Kentucky, many fans of the UNC basketball program expected that the Tar Heels would be in the mix once again.
Prior to committing to Kentucky in November of 2021, North Carolina was viewed as one of the favorites to land Clark. There were analysts that even felt that the No. 27 overall player in the Class of 2022, according to 247 Sports Composite, was even destined for Chapel Hill.
Is there a chance that the two sides can re-engage in hopes of bringing the talented point guard to North Carolina?
Not so fast…
Clark has announced his Top 6 schools that are still in contention to land him, via a social media post from On3 Sports Joe Tipton. Among the list, the Tar Heels are no where to be found.
North Carolina is not in the mix, as Clark will be deciding between USC, Illinois, Maryland, Louisville, Tennessee, and Washington. Kentucky, which Clark originally committed to, has also been eliminated from contention.
It shouldn’t be a major surprise to see the UNC basketball program not in the Skyy Clark sweepstakes, as it seems that they are heading in a different direction. With Seth Trimble already committed to this year’s class, it’s possible that Hubert Davis and his staff will look to add guard help via the transfer portal (depending on what happens with the current roster once the season ends).
Even though the circumstances are much different this time around, once again it’s confirmed that Skyy Clark will not be joining the UNC basketball program.
