Will this four-star point guard provide us with some good UNC basketball recruiting news this week?

The recruiting process of London Johnson has been… very quiet.

In a world where everything, literally everything, seems to be posted on social media, the four-star point guard has done a very nice job of keeping his recruitment as closed to the public as possible.

What we do know is that Johnson initially released his “top 6,” as the Norcross, Georgia native is choosing between the UNC basketball program, Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Virginia, and USC.

Adding to this information, we now officially know that we are in the final stretch of Johnson’s recruiting process. The four-star guard, ranked No. 24 overall in the Class of 2023 according to 247 Sports Composite, is expected to announce his final decision on Friday, April 1.

Unlike other prospects, there are no “Crystal Ball Predictions” or anything that can give us any indication as to where Johnson may be heading. At this rate, it’s all speculation as to what might transpire on Friday, but let’s take a look at it from a North Carolina perspective.

For starters, the Tar Heels already have five-star Simeon Wilcher (who is seen more as a combo guard) committed to this respective class. Will North Carolina be able to double up and have Johnson join forces with Wilcher in Chapel Hill?

Additionally, in order to gain a commitment from Johnson, they’ll have to lure him away from his home state. Geographically speaking, it may be a long shot for the UNC basketball program to add the four-star to the mix, as other options may be more enticing based solely on location.

Of course, there’s also the ACC effect, as three of the conference’s programs are included among his finalist. If the Tar Heels don’t gain a commitment from Johnson, they hope that fellow ACC programs Clemson and Virginia don’t either.

As we stated before, this is all speculation at this rate. Seeing how his recruitment has gone so far, it’s probably unlikely that we’ll gain any more information prior to his announcement.

North Carolina could very much be in this race, but at this rate, it seems as if London Johnson and his family know for sure what the high school junior’s intentions are.
