How did legendary UNC basketball coach Roy Williams react after his beloved Tar Heels defeated UCLA in the Sweet 16?

Even though he isn’t on the sidelines anymore, Roy Williams is still very heavily invested in the UNC basketball program.

During his first year of retirement, Williams has continued to be an active supporter of the program. Although his role has changed, Williams has no intentions of overstepping his boundaries.

Instead, he’s now able to enjoy the games from a fan’s perspective.

Emotions were high on Friday night, as North Carolina defeated No. 4 seed UCLA to clinch their ticket to the Elite Eight. Similar to the entire UNC basketball fan base, Williams was just as excited to see his beloved program take home the victory.

Williams was excited to see the Tar Heels take home the victory, as it will mark the program’s first Elite Eight appearance since 2017. You have to imagine that the former North Carolina coach is extremely proud of the effort that his former players put in, especially Caleb Love, who absolutely dominated in the second half.

Having seen Williams’ reaction to the victory, some of his former players used the image from the CBS broadcast on social media to express their excitement.

There was never a doubt that Roy Williams would always be a part of the UNC basketball program. However, it’s been a heartwarming experience to see the long-time head coach take on a new role, as he roots on his handpicked successor while being there to support the entire program in any way that he possibly can.
