UNC basketball recruiting prospect Simeon Wilcher ended his junior season in style, as he led Roselle Catholic to the New Jersey Tournament of Champions title.

In the state of New Jersey, the Tournament of Champions has become one of the biggest high school sporting events in the area.

Since 1989, this tournament took the group champions and matched them against each other to determine who is the best team among the very talented field was. Unfortunately, the NJSIAA came to a decision in November that this would be the last year of the event, citing a handful of reasons as to why they are ending it.

New Jersey High School basketball will certainly take a hit by not having this event, but hey, we still had one more TOC final to enjoy.

Needless to say, the game most certainly sent the tournament out in grand style.

Before we talk about the title game, let’s take you back to the very beginning of the season.

On December 17, Camden, led by DJ Wagner, the consensus No. 1 overall recruit in the Class of 2023 according to 247 Sports, hosted Roselle Catholic, which is led by UNC basketball recruiting commit Simeon Wilcher, another top-three prospect in the state of New Jersey.

It was a tremendous opening-night battle, as Wagner’s game-high 25 points led Camden to the early season victory. After the loss, Wilcher, who had 21 points in the game, and his team definitely wanted a second crack at taking down Camden.

Roselle Catholic got their wish, as the two programs were the final ones standing as the New Jersey high school basketball season concluded on Sunday night. Similar to their opening night tilt, this game most certainly lived up to the hype as well.

Except this time, Wilcher and Roselle Catholic finished on top.

The first half was a close one, as Roselle Catholic held a two-point lead heading into the break. In the third quarter, Camden took control, as they outscored Roselle Catholic 19-11 to give them a 47-41.

As the two programs went back and forth, it was Roselle Catholic who had the edge in the fourth quarter. Wilcher helped them regain the lead, as he converted on an old-fashioned three-point play to give his team the lead back.

Regulation was not enough, as the battle proceeded into overtime. In a nail-biting finish, Roselle Catholic did just enough to squeeze by with a three-point victory to secure the final Tournament of Champions title.

Wilcher was outstanding in the big-time moment, as he scored 23 points and was the only Roselle Catholic player to score in double-figures. After Wagner got the best of the first matchup a few months back, it was Wilcher and Roselle Catholic who are the last team standing at the end.

After leading his team to victory, the 5-star junior had the opportunity to share a special moment with his father, Serge.

Simeon Wilcher finished off his junior season in style by knocking off the top overall team in the state. We still have some time before the UNC basketball recruiting prospect makes his way to Chapel Hill, but by following him closely throughout this past season, Tar Heels fans should be very excited to see him play at the Dean Smith Center in the near future.
