Robert Dillingham announced that he is reopening his recruitment. Does the UNC basketball recruiting team have a shot of luring the 5-star to Chapel Hill?

March Madness is a term that typically describes the chaos that is occurring in the NCAA Tournament. However, it could most certainly also relate to the transfer portal as well as surprising decisions made by some of the sports’ top recruited players.

During the Tar Heels game against Baylor on Saturday afternoon, major news was announced by 5-star guard Robert Dillingham. After previously committing to NC State on December 1, the Simi Valley, California native has decided to reopen his recruitment, which is major UNC basketball recruiting news.

This comes as a huge surprise, given that it seemed as if Dillingham, the No. 9 overall prospect in the Class of 2023 according to 247 Sports Composite, was content with his decision to attend NC State. However, the highly-coveted guard will re-evaluate his options, which could possibly lead him to Chapel Hill.

North Carolina was heavily involved in his original recruitment, and could possibly engage with Dillingham once again. With Simeon Wilcher already part of the 2023 recruiting class, it remains to be seen whether the Tar Heels will look to add another talented point guard to this respective class.

It should be expected that plenty of programs will be in the mix, and it will be interesting to see where Dillingham ends up. Will he potentially pursue professional opportunities, or will his decision lead him on the college path (at NC State, who is still in contention, or elsewhere).

We won’t know for sure for some time, but hey, Chapel Hill would be a nice place for Dillingham to end up.

Dawson Garcia's absence remains a mystery. dark. Next
