Last-second heartbreak befell a member of the UNC basketball recruiting class of 2022 on Friday night.

Seth Trimble is excited to get to the University of North Carolina, but he had one final goal before reaching the Tar Heels’ sprawling and storied campus in Chapel Hill: to win a state title.

He and his teammates at Menomonee Falls High School were just one victory away from the WIAA Division 1 State Championship Game but came up ever so shy in their Friday night semifinal matchup with Brookfield Central.

Following an 11-0 Brookfield run, Trimble, a future Tar Heel in the class of 2022, had the ball with time winding down on the clock and an opportunity to win. He quickly brought the ball down the court in front of a raucous crowd at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wisconsin, and heaved it up just beyond the three-point line at the top of the key.

The ball sailed through the air on a perfect line to the basket and was on its way down when it spun out and left Trimble and his teammates on the wrong end of a heartbreaking loss.

Despite suffering a loss in the final game of his high school career, Trimble has been brilliant throughout. He was named the Wisconsin Gatorade Boys Basketball Player of the Year on Wednesday after averaging 26.8 points, 7.4 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 2.5 steals, and 1.6 blocks per game while shooting 56.5 percent.

The next stop for Trimble: Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Next. Dawson Garcia's absence remains a mystery. dark
