UNC Basketball: Paulina Paris continues her dominance
UNC women’s basketball commit Paulina Paris has led her high school team to yet another championship this season.
The championship titles keep rolling in for the Saddle River Day high school girl’s basketball program.
First, the Lady Rebels claimed the Bergen County Championship a few weeks back with a 72-60 victory over Immaculate Heart Academy. Their latest title was secured on Thursday night, as they defeated Morris Catholic in dominating fashion to capture the North Jersey, Non-Public B title.
Ranked as the No. 3 team in New Jersey (according to NJ.com), the Rebels were once again led by star Paulina Paris. The UNC women’s basketball commit was phenomenal, scoring a game-high 37 points to add yet another title to her team’s resume.
What’s most impressive about Paris’ performance is that she got stronger as the game went on. With her team holding a double-digit lead, Morris Catholic had a few opportunities to make a run to get back into the game, but Paris made sure that it wouldn’t happen.
In the fourth quarter, Paris scored 16 of her 37 points en route to a 24-point victory for her squad over the No. 6 ranked team in all of New Jersey.
When talking to reporters after the game, here’s what Paris had to say about the extra motivation she had coming into this one:
"“A lot of people thought we were going to lose this game. A lot of people had us losing this game, and that motivated us a lot more to come in here and beat them the way we did.”"
The critics were wrong, as Paris made sure her team came away with a victory. With this game behind them, the Lady Rebels still have more business to take care of on the basketball court.
On Saturday morning, Paris and Saddle River Day will take on No. 4 Rutgers Prep in the Non-Public B title game in Toms River, New Jersey. With a win, the Lady Rebels will clinch their ticket to the Tournament of Champions, which will be the final time that the event will be held.
Given that she has absolutely shined on the biggest stages of New Jersey basketball, we are certain that the future Tar Heel will be more than ready for the occasion.
