Even after over a decade since being removed from their college careers, the UNC basketball vs. Duke rivalry lives on between Wayne Ellington and Gerald Henderson.

The rivalry between the UNC basketball program and the Duke Blue Devils will always live on.

In fact, for the players involved, the rivalry lasts a lifetime. Once you’re invested in it, it never leaves you. How does the old saying go…

“You can take the Tar Heel out of Chapel Hill, but you cant take the Tar Heel out of the person.”

Thanks to social media, we got to witness the rivalry live out between two former players: Wayne Ellington and Gerald Henderson.

In lieu of the handshake issue that occurred after the Tar Heels defeated the Blue Devils on Saturday night, Henderson, who played at Duke for three seasons from 2006-2009, first spoke out to defend assistant coach Chris Carrawell.

After seeing Henderson’s response, Ellington, who was a member of the UNC basketball program during the same span of time as Henderson and was a key contributor on the 2008-2009 National Championship squad, didn’t like what his rival had to say. Here’s Ellington’s response to the tweet:

Ellington called Henderson out, saying that the tune would’ve been different had Duke won the game. Henderson calls for everyone to “look at the tape,’ but there are no visual examples of Davis snubbing the Duke coaching staff.

Henderson didn’t have a logical rebuttal to Ellington’s statement but chose to respond to his comment in a childish-type of manner:

Maybe Henderson forgot that Duke held their pregame festivities in honor of Coach K, which is very likely the reason that interactions between Davis and the Blue Devils coaching staff didn’t occur. However, if the former Duke standout would like to share this footage, we’d love to take a look at it!

This just goes to show that the UNC vs. Duke rivalry will always live on and that the players and coaches involved will always be invested in it.

Needless to say, these types of interactions show just why this is the greatest rivalry in all of college sports.
