UNC Basketball: Hubert Davis shares emotional postgame moment
After his first signature victory as the UNC basketball program’s head coach, Hubert Davis shared an emotional moment with his players.
The UNC basketball program’s victory against Duke in Coach K’s final home game will go down as one of, if not the, biggest regular-season win for the Tar Heels in this historic rivalry.
There was a lot at stake for both sides, but based on what we saw on Saturday night, the Tar Heels simply wanted this game more.
With their NCAA Tournament hopes on the line, North Carolina put together their strongest performance of the season en route to an upset victory over No. 4 Duke. Not only did the win spoil the Coach K festivities, but it essentially clinched the Tar Heels’ ticket to the big dance.
The win was also very important for head coach Hubert Davis. Not only is this his first “signature victory” as the team’s leader, but it also serves as his first win in this historic rivalry.
What a way to pick up your first win against your program’s most hated rival!
Emotions were running high throughout the game and were certainly on display afterward. Courtesy of social media, we were able to see Davis interact with some of his key players just moments after the Tar Heels got back into their visitor’s locker room.
Davis is first embraced by junior co-captain Armando Bacot, who is in tears after the huge victory for the program. As they embrace, Davis says “Good job big guy. I’m proud of you.”
Just a few moments later, Brady Manek, who also is clearly emotional as well, joins in on the embrace. Senior Leaky Black quickly joins in afterward and is then seen tapping on the backs of Bacot and Manek while shouting words of praise to the duo.
After Manek and Black leave the scene, it’s Bacot who is still embracing his head coach. From the overall emotion shown by Davis, Bacot, and Manek, it’s evident how much this win means not only to them but the program as a whole.
The postgame emotion just goes to show how hard these individuals worked in order to make the upset happen. It is a major victory for the UNC basketball program and will be a special moment for all the players and coaches to remember for the rest of their lives.
