After securing the No. 3 seed in the ACC Tournament on Saturday night, the UNC basketball program looks ahead to their quarterfinal matchup on Thursday.

The ACC regular season has officially come to an end, and all eyes are on the upcoming conference tournament that will take place this week in Brooklyn, New York.

With their upset victory over No. 4 Duke on Saturday night, the UNC basketball program clinched the No. 3 seed in the tournament. Going in, the Tar Heels knew they had a double-bye waiting for them in the tournament, but it was a matter of which of the top four seeds they would ultimately claim.

Here’s a look at the official ACC men’s basketball tournament bracket:

The tournament will start on Tuesday and will end on Saturday, the day before Selection Sunday. North Carolina will be idle until Thursday, as they’ll wait to see which team will earn a spot into the quarterfinal round.

There are three teams that the UNC basketball program will potentially play on Thursday. Louisville and Georgia Tech will square off on Tuesday in the preliminary round, and the winner will take on Virginia on Wednesday. The winner of that game will earn a trip to the next round to face the Tar Heels.

The seeding bodes well for Hubert Davis’ team, as the Tar Heels went 5-0 against these opponents during the regular season. North Carolina defeated Louisville and Georgia Tech twice and defeated Virginia once in Chapel Hill.

Another thing that goes in the Tar Heels’ favor is the schedule. For their quarterfinal game, North Carolina will be well-rested and will take on a team that either played one or two days in a row prior (depending on the outcomes). For a team that doesn’t use many rotation players, this is definitely an advantage.

We don’t want to look too far ahead, but if you were wondering, a possible third matchup with Duke could only occur in the ACC Tournament finals on Saturday night.

Before we start worrying about potential future matchups, let’s focus on the now. North Carolina is scheduled to play at 9:30 p.m. on Thursday night to kick off their ACC tournament play. From there, we’ll have to wait and see just how it goes.
