UNC Basketball: Bacot makes special FaceTime call after Duke win
After an emotional victory for the UNC basketball program against Duke in the final game of the regular season, who did Armando Bacot have a special FaceTime call with?
Armando Bacot put up another monster performance, this time en route to helping the UNC basketball program secure a huge upset victory over No. 4 Duke.
The Tar Heels came to play. They knew what was at stake for them (a win ultimately secured an NCAA Tournament bid), and understood the assignment of doing anything they could to spoil Coach K’s final home game at Duke.
Bacot made 10 of his 11 shots from the floor, scoring a team-high 23 points. His presence was felt, as the game shifted in the Blue Devils’ favor each time he was taken out (mostly for foul trouble purposes).
After the game, of course, emotions were running high. The Tar Heels were celebrating their victory, and rightly so were thrilled at their performance.
As the locker room celebrations went on, there was someone who Bacot felt the need to talk to. That person is no other than former UNC basketball coach Roy Williams.
Bacot posted the above screenshot of his FaceTime call with Williams on his Instagram story. Over the image, the junior big man posted a small caption, which read “this is for you my guy.”
This is just another example of how the UNC basketball program stands out from any other program in the entire country. North Carolina strives on creating a family atmosphere, and you can tell that the former Tar Heels head coach still has a great connection with his former players.
Contrary to what Coach K believes, it’s okay for a former head coach to go to a school that he loves dearly to support the program and his former players. Krzyzewski may think it’s “hovering,” but we think that it’s Williams’ way of showing that he still loves the program and the people involved in it.
From the Caleb Love pregame high-fives to the Armando Bacot FaceTime calls after big games, Roy Williams is still, and will continue to be, a very instrumental figure in the UNC basketball program. Little occurrences like these just show how much the legendary Tar Heels coach means to his former players.
