UNC Football: Sam Howell throws but doesn’t test at NFL Combine
How did the former UNC football standout fare during his throwing session as part of the NFL Combine?
The NFL Combine is a great opportunity for players to showcase their skills in front of representatives from every professional football team.
Former UNC football standout Sam Howell participated but did not partake in all combine activities.
Due to a minor calf injury that he suffered during Senior Bowl practices, Howell elected to not test at the combine. He is expected to run and go through testing at North Carolina’s scheduled pro day on March 28.
However, even though he didn’t go through testing, Howell did showcase his arm talent during the quarterback throwing sessions. In case you didn’t get to see Howell in action, take a look at the video below for some highlights of him slinging the football.
The Indian Trail, North Carolina native made some nice throws, including some downfield, as he showed the ability to make next-level type throws. In a test to see what quarterback has the highest speed on a thrown football, Howell registered a 59 MPH throw, which ranked best among all participants:
Although Howell would probably have liked to have competed in all aspects at the NFL Combine, he should be satisfied with his performance during the throwing sessions. He’ll have another opportunity to improve his stock in a few weeks when NFL scouts travel to Chapel Hill for the Tar Heels’ upcoming pro day.
