Why Sam Howell never tried out for the UNC basketball team

During one of his NFL Combine team meetings, Sam Howell showed why he never tried out for the UNC basketball program.

Sam Howell is a tremendous athlete. In fact, Howell probably has the potential to play at a high level in sports other than football.

However, during one of his individual team meetings at the NFL combine, the former Tar Heel quarterback showed us why he never tried out for the UNC basketball program.

When meeting with the media, Howell was asked if any teams presented him with strange questions (which happens quite often during these types of meetings). Although he wasn’t asked any out-of-the-ordinary questions, one team did ask the Indian Trail, North Carolina native to take part in an unusual game.

While meeting with the Philadelphia Eagles, the organization asked Howell to shoot a basketball into a mini hoop. The former Tar Heel standout admitted that he only made two of his five shot attempts, as he joked that his struggles made them lose interest in him.

It was a very weird request from the Eagles, but you’d have to think that the organization had some idea about what they were looking to gain from it.

At this point, it shouldn’t be a surprise to hear about random instances that occur during the NFL combine. While players are working hard to showcase their on-the-field skills, organizations are also looking to find out more about the young men off the field as they look for potential fits for their respective franchise.
