After participating in UNC basketball’s annual Senior Night, Leaky Black made comments that seem like he’s leaning toward returning to Chapel Hill next season.

Oh, how the landscape of college sports has changed!

In the past, players who took part in their respective program’s Senior Day were essentially on the verge of completing their collegiate careers. In some cases, players went on to play elsewhere as graduate transfers, but the majority moved on to greener pastures.

However, with the COVID-19 pandemic impacting the world as a whole, it also made its mark on college sports, especially regarding the sport of basketball.

Players who were on active rosters when the season was abruptly shut down in 2020 were granted an additional season of college eligibility. One of the players who can definitely benefit from this rule is Leaky Black of the UNC basketball program.

Yes, Black went through the team’s Senior Night festivities prior to their overtime victory against Syracuse. Even though the team celebrated the Concord, North Carolina native for playing what could be his final home game, the door is still open for a potential return in the 2022-23 season.

By the looks of it, Black may actually be leaning toward a return to Chapel Hill.

In a postgame interview with Adam Lucas of GoHeels.com, Black was asked about how it felt to run back through the tunnel at the Dean Smith Center with a victory. Here’s what the senior forward had to say in response:

We’ve talked a lot lately about Black’s overall progression, as he’s been playing at a very high level on both ends of the floor. As he’s truly coming to form, it would be a tremendous boost to next year’s squad to bring Black into the mix for one more season.

This year’s team still has basketball left to be played, so Black’s focus will definitely be on the team’s upcoming schedule. Even though he won’t officially make a decision until after the season comes to an end, it’s not too early to begin the “Leaky Black Come Back” movement.
