Armando Bacot is among a handful of Tar Heel student-athletes who earned a prestigious honor from the North Carolina Athletics Department.

The North Carolina Athletics department announced this year’s honorees for their annual Athletic Director’s Scholar-Athletes.

During every school year, this award is given to a member of each varsity program in recognition of their outstanding academic achievements. The recipients were honored during halftime of the men’s basketball game on Monday night.

The official press release states that all student-athletes who received the award have “represented their teams with distinction, balancing the demands of participating in a varsity sport while also excelling academically.” Most of the time, seniors are the student-athletes honored with the award, but there are some occasions in which juniors are selected.
