UNC Football: Stacy Searels tabbed as Georgia’s offensive line coach
The UNC football program will have to replace their offensive line coach, as Stacy Searels will be taking the same position at an SEC program.
After three seasons as the offensive line coach for UNC football program, Stacy Searels will be leaving Chapel Hill to take the same position at the University of Georgia.
Searels will replace Matt Luke, who resigned from the position just a week prior. This will not be Searels’ first rodeo in Georgia, as he previously served in the same position for the Bulldogs from 2007-2010.
His first stint ended when he teamed up with current UNC football head coach Mack Brown at the University of Texas. After re-teaming up with Brown in Chapel Hill, Searels will now return to the SEC to join the Bulldogs.
In over 30 years as a coach, Searels has put together an impressive resume. He has produced 25 NFL linemen, including 11 draft picks.
Over his three seasons at North Carolina, the Tar Heels offensive line has helped pave the way for five 1,000 yard rushers, the most in the country during that span.
Although the Tar Heels offensive line unit did struggle during the 2021 season, losing Searels is a significant loss for the program’s coaching staff. The timing of his departure is also not ideal, as North Carolina is scheduled to begin their spring ball workouts this week.
While North Carolina searches for a replacement, Searels will get reaccustomed to his old stomping grounds in an effort to help the Bulldogs repeat as National Champions this upcoming season.
