The high school junior is showing why he was such an important addition to the UNC basketball recruiting class of 2023.

Simeon Wilcher did not have his best offensive scoring performance in Roselle Catholic High School’s victory in the Union County Tournament finals. However, that did not stop the junior guard, who’s part of the UNC basketball recruiting class of 2023, from making an impact in the game.

With his team trailing by two, Wilcher scored in transition with 1:25 remaining. With the game tied up, the Roselle, New Jersey native made a kick-out pass to teammate Akil Watson (a four-star forward in the class of 2023) who drained a three-pointer to give Roselle Catholic the lead for good.

Wilcher finished with 11 points, but his timely playmaking turned out to be crucial for his team’s success. Throughout the regular season, the junior guard showed that he can impact the game in multiple ways, and has been a major asset in Roselle Catholic’s effort to be the top team in the state of New Jersey.

Not only are Wilcher and Roselle Catholic considered one of (if not the best) teams in their state, they also are being included in talks regarding the top programs in the country.

In his most recent ranking, National High School Basketball Insider Samad Hines has Roselle Catholic as his No. 10-ranked team overall.

Wilcher is definitely thriving on the basketball court but is also showcasing his personality, which definitely had something to do with the Tar Heels’ interest in him.

Via Twitter, John M. Cerra (a spectator at Roselle Catholic games) took time to discuss interactions that the five-star guard has had with a fan of his.

Of course, Wilcher is not looking for any recognition from these actions. However, this type of story shows why he fits in the mold of players that North Carolina looks for, as the program continues to seek out players who can not only help them on the basketball court but are genuinely good people off of it as well.
