Tyler Nickel is proud to show that he’s part of this year’s UNC basketball recruiting class.

Based on the sneakers he wore during one of his recent high school basketball games, it’s pretty safe to say that Tyler Nickel is excited to be a part of the UNC basketball recruiting class of 2022.

Playing for East Rockingham High School, the future Tar Heel not only wore sneakers that paid homage to his current school but also showed some love for the university that he will be joining in a matter of a few months.

As seen in the image above, Nickel wore a pair of customized Kyrie Irving sneakers for his team’s regional semifinal contest. His left sneaker represents the East Rockingham Eagles, as the shoe matches the school’s color red and features the eagle logo on both sides.

The right sneaker reminds everyone that the four-star recruit is heading to Chapel Hill once his high school career is over. Similar to the other sneaker, this one features Carolina blue and has the UNC interlocking logo on both sides of the shoe. You can also see in the image that “Chapel Hill” is inscribed on the toe cap.

Wearing this fresh set of kicks, Nickel scored 41 points en route to a victory over Madison County. With the win, the future Tar Heel and his team advanced to the regional finals.

Nickel is no stranger to 40-point contests, as he’s put together a handful of them during his senior season on the high school basketball court. In fact, the Elkton, Virginia native just recently broke Mac McClung’s career state scoring record, showing firsthand just how talented of a scorer the senior forward has become.

However, given that he not only had a standout performance with these sneakers on but also saw his team become victorious, it’s likely that these will be included in his gameday sneaker rotation at least for the foreseeable future.

Until he arrives in Chapel Hill, let’s see if Nickel has any more UNC-inspired attire to showcase while he finishes off a tremendous high school basketball career.
