The UNC basketball program’s ‘Senior Night’ will have a different look, as there are some changes to how the ceremony will be conducted.

When Hubert Davis took over as the head coach of the UNC basketball program, it was expected that there would be some changes.

Of course, Davis believes in the history and tradition of the program, having served as both a player and coach in it throughout the years. However, the first-year head coach isn’t Dean Smith, Bill Guthridge, or Roy Williams, all of which he talks about in very high regard, and it’s his turn to make his own personal stamp on the program.

We’ve seen some things change over his first season at the helm, and now we’ll see some more adjustments to how the program will celebrate its annual ‘Senior Night.’

Over the years, we’ve grown accustomed to seeing the senior members of the program address the Smith Center crowd after their final home game as a Tar Heel. Who could forget when the likes of Tyler Hansborough, Marcus Paige, Joel Berry, and Theo Pinson addressed the home crowd and spoke about how much the program (and the people within it) meant to them.

Well, we won’t add any memories of that nature this year, as it was announced that there will be no player speeches during this year’s ‘Senior Night’ activities.

Not only will there be no postgame festivities, but all activities will also be held prior to the Tar Heels’ game against Syracuse. The ceremony, which will begin at 6:40 p.m., will feature three Tar Heels: Leaky Black, Brady Manek, and Ryan McAdoo.

Of course, there may be some type of video messages that have been put together by the players prior to the ceremony, but we’ll have to wait and see just what Hubert Davis’ version of ‘Senior Night’ will look like.

Even with some changes to the ceremony style, two things still remain the same.

For starters, the program will want to honor their senior members for their contributions over their time with the team. Secondly, and most importantly, the UNC basketball program will still have a basketball game to play that they really need to win in order to keep their NCAA Tournament hopes alive.
