UNC Basketball: Leaky Black uncertain about future with Tar Heels
Senior Leaky Black has an additional year of college eligibility to use but is uncertain as to whether he’ll return to the UNC basketball program.
The UNC basketball program will host its annual ‘Senior Night’ on Monday evening prior to their final home game of the season against Syracuse.
North Carolina announced that three players will take part in the pregame ceremony, including Leaky Black, Brady Manek, and Ryan McAdoo. Although he is scheduled to participate, Black’s future with the Tar Heels may not be over just yet.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, student-athletes were granted an additional season of collegiate eligibility. Black falls into this category, as he was a member of the UNC basketball program when the NCAA tournament was canceled because of the virus.
Could the Concord, North Carolina native return to Chapel Hill for one more year? At this point, the senior wing player hasn’t made a decision on his future plans.
With the extra year of college eligibility, not only could Black decide to return to North Carolina, but he could look at his potential options via the transfer portal. Based on the way he’s been playing as of late, Black should have plenty of interest, including from his current team that hopes he decides to stay.
Since the end of January, not only has Black been a steady defensive presence (as he’s been known to be), but also has been giving the Tar Heels some much-needed offensive production. After not scoring in double figures through the team’s first 17 contests, Black has scored 10 or more points in four of the last 10 games, as his offensive attack has become much more consistent.
Given what we’ve seen from Black as of late, it would be really interesting to see what he could do with one more season as a Tar Heel. As he continues to show growth as a player, Black could be a force to be reckoned with for next year’s UNC basketball squad.
