The incoming UNC football recruiting class features the High School Football America Player of the Year.

Connor Harrell is one of eight players in the UNC football recruiting class of 2022 that decided to enroll early at the University of North Carolina.

Although he has already begun the life of a college student, the Alabaster, Alabama native is still picking up recognition for his stellar high school football career.

It was announced that Harrell was named the 2021 High School Football America National Player of the Year. The three-star recruit was a major factor in Thompson High School winning back-to-back Alabama 7A state championships.

Harrell capped off a tremendous high school career this past fall, as he finished with 385 completions for 6,478 yards with 84 touchdowns. He completed 71.7 percent of his passes while only throwing six total interceptions. The future Tar Heel was also a threat in the running game, as he rushed for 701 yards and 10 touchdowns while averaging 6.3 yards per carry.

Not only is Harrell a stud on the football field, but he’s also a standout in the classroom. Last season, Harrell was named to the High School Football Academic All-America Team.

After choosing North Carolina over the likes of Michigan and Northwestern, Harrell will now focus his attention on competing for playing time in Chapel Hill. He’ll join a crowded quarterback room with talented players who are looking to earn the first crack at replacing Sam Howell.
