Former UNC basketball standout Cole Anthony will compete in the Slam Dunk Contest during NBA All-Star weekend.

Entering the NBA Slam Dunk contest isn’t something that Cole Anthony is doing as a “bucket list” type of thing. The former UNC basketball standout is in it to win it.

Anthony is among the four-player field that will compete in the event as part of the NBA All-Star Saturday night festivities on February 19 in Cleveland. Being a part of this contest is something that Anthony described to the Orlando Sentinel as “a life-long dream of mine since before I could dunk.”

Anthony will compete against Jalen Green of the Houston Rockets, Obi Toppin of the New York Knicks and Juan Toscano-Anderson of the Golden State Warriors. Although he is the smallest player in the field, the former Tar Heel isn’t intimidated by the competition.

"“I’m looking forward to competing against them. I’m never here to support the [opposition]. It doesn’t matter who my oppositions are, I’m here to get the dub.”"

In fact, the 6-foot-3 guard thinks that his size is an advantage for him. He believes that due to his short arms, some of his dunks will be more impressive than the ones that the taller players do during the competition.

Of course, everyone wants a sneak peek of what Anthony has planned. However, the former UNC basketball standout was not going to give any insight as to what he has planned.

"“I got a few tricks up my sleeve. A few ideas here and there. I got some outside help coming in to help me. Stay tuned.”"

If Anthony wins the Slam Dunk Contest, he’d be the first former Tar Heel to accomplish the feat since Vince Carter won the competition back in 2000. He would also join Carter and Michael Jordan (who won it in back-to-back years) as the only North Carolina products to win the event.

You can watch Cole Anthony compete in the NBA Slam Dunk contest on Saturday night starting at 8:00 p.m. EST on TNT.
