Throughout the first half of the NBA season, this former UNC basketball standout has been one of the best three-point shooters in the entire league.

During his time with the UNC basketball program, Tar Heel fans got to witness first-hand just how good of shooter Cameron Johnson is.

Now, in his third season in the NBA, Johnson is proving to the world that he is one of the best shooters throughout the sport.

The Moon Township, Pennsylvania native is having a career year for the Phoenix Suns, as he’s essentially improved all of his shooting numbers compared to his first two seasons in the league. Through 51 games, Johnson is averaging career-highs in points (11.9) and field goal percentage (45.6).

To go along with his new career marks, Johnson has also thrived beyond the three-point line. The former Tar Heel is shooting 42.9 percent from deep, which is currently an eight percent improvement from a season ago.

Johnson is currently tied with Mike Muscala of the Oklahoma City Thunder for the third-highest three-point percentage in the entire league. If you go by players who have 125 or more three-point field goal attempts, the 25-year-old is leading the league in the category.

As we talk about Johnson’s shooting success, we have one question to ask: How is Cameron Johnson not in the field for this year’s NBA All-Star Three-Point Contest?!

Sure, Johnson isn’t a “marquee name” as some of the other players in the field, but he’s not only one of the best statistical shooters in the league, but he also is doing this for a first-place Suns squad!

If you’re into the whole “snubs” talk regarding NBA All-Star weekend, look no further than Cameron Johnson not being included in the three-point shooting contest. With Cole Anthony competing in the dunk contest, it would’ve only been right to have a former Tar Heel participating in the three-point shootout as well.

Johnson will look to continue his hot shooting to help the Phoenix Suns maintain the best record in the NBA. His improved shooting has been a very nice bonus for a very talented Suns roster that has a chance to compete for another NBA Finals berth this season.
